What changed with the 1.0 release
Yet Another Zombie Survivors left Early Access with version 1.0 after three years of development. The official announcement describes this release as a large content update as well as a full-launch milestone, so it is the right starting point when checking whether an older guide still applies. It introduced new systems, an additional Survivor, a new arena, a new mode, story material, and a wide set of balance changes. This page is a source-led overview of those confirmed additions, not a tier list or a substitute for the in-game tooltips.
The release also changed the context for older advice. A route written before the Camp, missions, Rank 5, or Boss Rush can still contain useful fundamentals, but it cannot describe the complete current progression loop. The official release notes are therefore the primary reference for the facts below. Where the announcement does not publish an exact interaction, damage value, or unlock condition, this guide deliberately leaves it open rather than filling the gap with a guess.
Ranger, Bio Lab, and bosses
Ranger is the ninth Survivor added in version 1.0. The official notes describe her as a former park ranger who fights with a crossbow and animal companions, and say that her team-oriented kit can improve Critical and Luck for Survivors while offering ways to heal allies. The same announcement states that Ranger unlocks at Survival Level 175. That tells players where the character belongs in progression, but it does not by itself prove a best build or a numerical ranking for Ranger.
Bio Lab is the new arena introduced with the release. Officially, it unlocks after completing Dead Terminal on Default mode, uses a circular layout, and has toxic fumes at its edges plus a moving red decontamination danger zone. The announcement also places the new main bosses in the Ranger and Bio Lab release package, while its changelog lists five main bosses, two standard bosses, and three new standard enemies. Names, attack timing, and damage values should be checked in-game or against later official material before being treated as current.
Boss Rush and the ten-minute checkpoint
Boss Rush is a new game mode in version 1.0. The official description says a run begins normally, but players race to become stronger before the tenth-minute mark, when the Final Boss appears. It also says that defeating an area’s strongest enemy more quickly improves leaderboard placement for that arena and difficulty. The changelog lists Hardcore completion for each map as the unlock requirement for the mode.
This means Boss Rush is not simply a longer survival run with a different title. The published objective is a preparation window followed by a final encounter, so advice for the mode should distinguish confirmed unlock and timing information from recommendations about squads or upgrade order. This site does not assign a universal “best” Boss Rush team until current-version testing records its conditions. For a factual route, first verify the map’s Hardcore requirement, then use the mode’s own current UI and patch notes as the final authority.
The Camp, missions, and Friendship
Version 1.0 added the Survivors’ Camp as a between-run hub. According to the official announcement, the Camp gives access to interfaces, radio transmissions, and conversations between Survivors, while a Quick Run option remains available from the main menu for players who want to start immediately. The Camp’s Briefing Room is also where narrative missions are presented. That makes mission progress part of the full-release loop rather than a separate optional menu.
The release notes confirm three mission groups: 15 Main Story missions, 45 Survivor missions, and 19 Repeatable missions. They explain that completed missions award Friendship, which permanently increases the Cash and Specialization points earned at the end of a run. The Mission Log records story progress, reveals when a map or mode must be unlocked for a thread, and allows a failed mission to be retried instead of waiting for it to appear again. The announcement says stories can unfold in a somewhat random order, so a guide should not present their order as fixed.
Rank 5 and Survivor synergies
The full release adds a fifth rank to Survivor skill trees. The developer’s announcement says each Survivor receives two new synergy nodes, two passive-improvement nodes, and one passive node that grants a whole-team bonus while that Survivor is present. It also says the number of cross-Survivor synergies rises to four for each character, with three tied to abilities and a fourth that works independently. These are system-level facts; they do not establish the exact strength of any one combination.
For that reason, a reliable build page should record the game version, the leader and followers, the relevant rank condition, and the test context before calling a synergy strong. It should also separate official system wording from observed behavior. This prevents old Early Access assumptions from being silently carried into 1.0, and it gives readers a clear way to revisit a claim after a hotfix. The same rule applies to item interactions, which can change when balance or reward updates arrive.
Achievements, items, and optional Torments
The 1.0 announcement lists 88 new achievements, including 64 in the new Story category, and 21 new items. It also introduces 28 Torments. The developer describes Torments as fully optional, extra-difficult challenges that are not connected to the achievement system and are not required for 100% completion. They are viewed through the Hall of Torments tab in the Achievements interface.
Keeping achievements and Torments separate is useful for players planning a normal completion route. The Steam achievement list is the authoritative public index for achievement names and conditions, while the release announcement explains the 1.0 category changes. A tracker can help with personal progress, but it should not claim to synchronize with Steam unless that feature actually exists. If an achievement reward, unlock, or item effect is not confirmed by a current source, it remains a research item rather than a published fact.
How to use this release record
Use this page as a version boundary. It confirms the systems and content introduced with the full launch, then points readers to the relevant map, mission, Survivor, achievement, and patch records as those records are verified. It does not copy an entire changelog or turn every feature into an unsupported recommendation. The official 1.0 release announcement remains the source for the release-specific facts on this page.
When later hotfixes change a listed system, the newer patch record takes priority for that specific behavior. Version 1.0.0a and 1.0.0b, for example, correct several interface, mission, ability, and translation issues without replacing the broader 1.0 feature list. Keeping the release record and patch records separate makes a change easier to trace. It also lets a reader see whether a statement is a launch feature, a later fix, or an unverified editorial observation.
