Plan a squad around a clear goal

Yet Another Zombie Survivors is built around a leader and additional Survivors rather than one isolated weapon path. Squad Builder is being prepared to help you plan one leader, two teammates, and their useful links. Its goal is to make each slot easier to understand, not to invent a single best team for every mode.

Before you rely on a plan

Check current tooltips and the mode you are playing

Version 1.0 expanded cross-Survivor synergies to four per character and added Rank 5. The official announcement says three of those synergies are tied to abilities and a fourth works independently, while each Survivor also receives two new synergy nodes, two passive improvements, and a team-bonus node. These are confirmed system facts. They do not provide enough detail to auto-score every possible trio.

Start with a leader, then a purpose

Choose a leader for a concrete purpose: learning an arena, completing a mission, preparing for Boss Rush, or exploring a named mechanic. Then add a teammate only when the current tooltip explains the connection. This keeps a team plan focused instead of turning it into random character picking.

Avoid turning a community claim of “best team” into a permanent score. Personal preferences, video titles, and balance opinions from different dates can suggest an idea, but they do not settle every mode or version. Use them as a starting point, then compare them with your current game.

Ranger is an example of a documented role

The Version 1.0 announcement says Ranger can boost the Critical and Luck stats of all Survivors and has ways to heal allies. It also describes her Crossbow and animal companions. That makes Ranger a useful example of role-based planning: start from that support role, then check the live skill tree for the exact nodes you can use. Do not assume a mandatory teammate from a broad character description.

The same release introduced Ranger at Survival Level 175 and expanded the Synergy system. A team plan can remind you that a roster or Rank requirement may exist, but check unknown node effects in the game instead of trusting a made-up score. The same rule applies to every Survivor.

Keep version notes beside choices

Patch history can alter a choice without invalidating the entire squad. For example, Version 1.0.0b changed the damage-instance order for Mechanic’s Cooling Mods and reduced sound-effect frequency for Ranger’s Good Boy and Falcon abilities. The first is a documented behavior note; the latter is an audio note, not an implied damage change. A builder should retain the affected version and avoid broad conclusions.

When saving a plan, include the arena, mode, difficulty, and goal. Boss Rush has a ten-minute Final Boss deadline, while a mission run may be about a stated objective instead. The same three Survivors can play very differently in those situations, so a clear goal matters more than one unexplained score.

What Squad Builder can do today

This page explains how to plan a squad, but it is not yet a finished Synergy calculator. Current tooltip and team-link details are still being added. Until then, it is better to show a clear limit than to give you a confident-looking answer built on guesses.

Use it to list a leader, two teammates, the current version, the goal, known Synergies, and any question you still need to check. Confirm each connection in the game before treating it as a recommendation. This keeps older community builds separate from what you can use now.

A useful five-field plan

Start every saved plan with the arena or objective, then name the leader and two followers. Add the version and difficulty before describing any proposed connection, because a generic squad name is not enough to reproduce a result. Finally, distinguish a confirmed skill-tree link from a question you intend to test. That keeps the workspace useful today even while its calculator remains deliberately conservative.
